As the base engine option, this model comes standard on the majority of Ford Explorer trim levels, including the Ford Explorer base model, the Ford Explorer XLT, the Ford Explorer ST-Line, the Ford Explorer Timberline, and the Ford Explorer Limited. This engine offers up to 310 lb.-ft. of torque, 300 horsepower, and provides the Ford Explorer a towing capacity of 3,000 lbs., though that number will jump up to 5,300 lbs. when the Ford Explorer is equipped with the Class IV Trailer Tow Package.
3.3L Hybrid Engine
This engine is no average hybrid. The 3.3L Hybrid is extremely powerful and can be found as an available option for the Ford Explorer Limited and the Ford Explorer Platinum. The motor provides 318 horsepower and 322 lb.-ft. of torque, which makes for a standard Ford Explorer towing capacity of 3,000 lbs., but like the 2.3L EcoBoost®, the Class IV Trailer Tow Package kicks that number up a notch. When properly equipped with this engine, the Ford Explorer towing capacity maxes out at 5,000 lbs.
3.0L EcoBoost®
Standard on the Ford Explorer ST, Ford Explorer King Ranch®, and Ford Explorer Platinum trim levels, this is the most powerful of the Ford Explorer engine options. The 3.0L EcoBoost® is no joke, capable of pumping out a whopping 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine can even reach a top speed of 143 MPH. When properly equipped, this engine produces the maximum Ford Explorer towing capacity of 5,600 lbs.
